Ok, so I’m finally recovered.  Actually, Monday I was tired, yesterday I was busy.  So now it’s Wednesday and I’m really to tell the whole story.

Let’s start with Thursday.   As per usual, I headed to Skillet for lunch.  I got the farro salad and the carrot cake.  And this time I took pictures so everyone could see the beauty of this food.

The Farro salad- it was amazing.

And the Carrot Cake – the big blob of white stuff… that’s is the best cream cheese frosting I have ever had.

After that and the end of the work day, I headed over to say my goodbyes to the goats.  I figured that they would be gone when I got back from SF.

And here’s a few pictures of the goats and the dog that was there to herd them along.  He was such a sweet dog.

The hill

I don’t know when their last work day was, but when I got back this is what I saw:

Goat Hill... it's all clean!

This was the before:

First day on the job

But enough about the goats….  I headed down to SF on Friday.  When I got there I think the temperature was just above boiling.  I had lunch with my first boss after college.  It was great to catch up with here and I can’t wait to see her again.  I also got to see a few people that I haven’t in a long time.  And that was great.  I also got to spend some time with my aunt who I haven’t seen in a bit.  All in all it was great trip.

Saturday morning we went to Imagiknits.  They were having a sale.  And I love a sale.  It’s a beautiful store and the people who worked there were so nice.  I wish I had a day to spend in there just to touch all the yarn and look at the all beautiful colors and samples they have knit up.

On Saturday night we got to see the Giants play the White Sox.  I have to admit, it wasn’t the Giant’s best day.  But it was sunny at the park and I was there with my aunt and my friends.

The ball park

By the end of the 4th inning the fog was waiting outside the ballpark and it was starting to get back to that SF weather I know and love.

After the game, we headed back home and to bed… I had to get a good nights sleep to be well rested for the race.

As for the race…. well it was a blast.  It was a lot of hard work but it’s always fun.  From the throwing of the tortillas at the beginning of the race, to the naked people (and there were way too many naked people), to the costumes, to the kegs on wheels being pushed or pulled by other runners.  I was hold a solid 11 minute mile pace until the dreaded Hayes Street hill at the 2.5 mile mark.  I vow to take that hill down next year.  I ended up having to run one block then walk the next of the next .5 miles.  That was the hill.  At an 11% grade, I felt the run/walk idea was the best way to go.  By the time I got to the panhandle, the fog had rolled in and it was refreshing.  At some point in the park we passed a band called the Meshugga Beach Party – they do traditional Jewish songs as instrumental surf tunes.  If I were to have a bat mitzvah I would beg my parents to have them play at it.  I crossed the finish line roughly and hour and thirty three minutes after starting the race.  Next year, I’ll be one of the first 10,000 people to cross the finishline.

This morning it was a bit overcast and blah.  So I got to work and hunkered down for a grey, cold day.  But we had our warehouse landlord stop by so I opened up the bay door for him.  And when I looked across the street, I saw this on the building across the street!

Look! Up in the Sky!

I watched him for a bit and he decided to take a load off and relax in the yard of the house next door to where he was perched.

It's a bird!

I think he might have been checking out the koi pond.  But after a bit, a man with his large pitbull walked by and the bird was gone.  I have to admit it was a cool way to brighten up the morning.

After work, I headed over to our office.  My boss had offered to straighten my hair for my trip to SF and I gladly took her up on the offer.  While she was straightening my hair I started knitting the Asymmetrical Cable Cardi with some yarn I had lying around.  So far, it’s going well.  I needed to have something to work on while I was on the plane and in SF. So hopefully I can get a bunch of this done.  I would like to make the sleeves longer.  So I need to look into how to go about doing that.

One the stylin’ was done, I headed home and that meant swingin’ by and seeing how my goat buddies are doing.  I have a feeling they’ll be done by the time I get back.  So my Monday morning commute will be a sad one.

Seriously… could they be any cuter looking?

Just look at all the garbage that was underneath all the brush.

gross!

Let’s do a before and after, shall we?

Before…

After…

Before...

After…

After...

They got there on Friday and look at how different that hill is!

This is all that is left.  Just some tall brush, most likely raspberry bushes.

The last of it

Finally!  After several months of blood, sweat, tears and yarn,  it’s done.  The Cables and Chains Jacket is done.  I have to say, it was a total pain to get it to line up correct so that I could seam it.  But in the end all the pain was worth it.  Unfortunately I don’t have a glamour shot of this.  It’ll be flying with me to San Francisco.  So I’ll see if I can get an action shot then.  But until then… here it is – the Cables and Chains Jacket.

The beast! It's alive!

And on the goat tip… It’s going to be a sad day for me when the goats are gone.  I have a feeling they’ll be packing up and taking off while I’m in San Francisco.  But until then.  Here they are… the beloved goats of Mt. Baker.

Anywhere their caretaker went to trim up some more shrubs so they could get to more eating, they followed like moths to a flame.  I think, as soon as they heard the noise from the trimmer, they came a running.  A kind of Pavlov’s goats, if you will.

Mucho goats!

It’s like they’ve been starving for weeks or something….

The Goats!!!!!

OK that trimmer could cut off a limb in no time at all, but these goats showed no fear when food is involved.

No Fear!

Here they are after they were allowed at the fresh cut shrubs.

And even goats need to wash their hands before eating.

And this is my favorite photo so far.  My favorite goat, I’ll call him Rockstar.  He’s actually sitting on the goat behind him.  I think he’s thinking he’s the James Brown of goats.  “He so tired… help a brother up…. no… I can’t go on…. heh… ” I felt like I needed to throw a cape over him.  Maybe tomorrow….

I finally got around to cooking my farmer’s market chicken.  Ok, so it took a couple of days to thaw.  Friday night arrived, and I got to cooking.  I stuffed that bad boy with a whole lemon cut into a few big pieces, a couple of cloves of garlic, some sage, and salt and pepper.  Then I put her in the oven and in about an hour, she was done and looking like a tan golden goddess.

She's a beauty

I don’t know if it was because this chicken was free range, organic and local or if it was because it was the first roast chicken I’ve made, but it was sooooo tasty.  I’m still eating it!  I’ve already had a 5 meals off it this bird!

On my way home, I did a drive by to see if the goats were still there.  I’m happy to report, they are.  I’m gonna miss those guys when they’re done.  But the hill looks like it’s been cleaned up by professional landscapers.  I guess, in a way, it has been.  So without further adieu, here’s the gratuitous goat shots.  Check out how clean the hill looks compared to 3 days ago!

Today was uneventful until the drive home.  It was a beautiful day today – the sun was out, it was warm but not super hot.  It was perfect.  On days like this, I tend to take the scenic route home.  It’s all the backroads home.  As I was driving past what is normally a rather hilly, overgrown section of land I noticed that that patch of land was now infested.  Ok, infested is not the right word, but it was covered with goats!

Goats!

I had to do a double take, turn the car around and go back to make sure I was seeing everything correctly.  So I doubled back and sure enough, there were goats on the hill!

Goats! Goats!

It was awesome!  I walked around and up the stairs that run along side the hill.    It was great to watch everyone come to a screeching halt when the got to the hill.

Goat! Goats! Goats!

By the time I had walked back down the stairs the goats had quite an audience.  I took a few more photos.  Close ups, if you will.

Goats! Goats! Goats! and more Goats!

This guy was awesome.  He was one of the bigger guys in the group.  And I have to say, he really wanted to be photographed.  He  was posing for me.  He’s a total rockstar.  Check out that goatee!

is that a goat or a unicorn?

I think this one thought he was more of a magical, mythical creature, sporting the unicorn horn.  Either that or he’s the winner of the goat version of Project Runway and he’s making fashion happen for goats.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

And these guys were just begging for the photo caption to be “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”

I’m not sure if they’re spending the night tonight, but I hope they’re there when I go by tomorrow!  Oh and if you need to rent a herd for some landscaping, you can contact them via their website.  The owner was super nice.  I didn’t get a chance to talk to her, but I heard her chatting with a few other people there.
